Het Nieuwe Spelalfabet

A campaign site for a more inclusive Dutch phonetic alphabet, built around 26 personal stories and an interactive name generator.

How it went

Every project answers the same three questions. Here they are for Het Nieuwe Spelalfabet.

What was involved

  • Website development
  • CMS setup
  • Interactive tools

The challenge

De Bovengrondse needed a site that could carry a full campaign rather than just explain it: a researched alternative to the old Dutch phonetic alphabet ("A van Anton" and so on), presented through 26 individual name stories, downloadable teaching materials, and a tool people could actually play with. The design came from the agency; the job was to build all of it properly.

What we built

Built the full site to the supplied design: 26 individual story pages, one per letter, each with its own portrait and personal quote; downloadable resources (a poster, a memory game) for classrooms; and an interactive generator that spells out any name or word live using the new alphabet.

The result

Thousands of people have used the generator to spell out their own name with the new alphabet.
